First off I am biased straight out I like the new look for the Brooklyn Nets. It’s cleaner, simpler, and maybe a little bit off the cuff. But I like that bare bones approach giving the team a new black and white brand identity. That’s the visual side of my opinion, now the reasons why I like it strategically: It’s so different from the glam pop three dimensional New Jersey Nets previous brand identity and yet it keeps the core content of the brand mark. Why does this matter? The owner knows he has an entirely new audience to embrace and at the same time he has to keep the loyalty to the previous fans. Jay-Z clearly aggressively focused his attention on the new audience versus the old audience but strategically I think he made the right decision to make a big visual step forward… but only time will tell with the ticket sales.
What do you think? Hit or Miss on the brand update to this new mark?
Also to give credit to he original designer: Timothy P Morris, check out his alternates the the one chosen was clearly the best but he did a good job on the brand identity study.
